U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States must not allow China to gain an advantage in artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency, describing both sectors as critical to the country’s future economic and technological competitiveness.
In an interview with Punchbowl News, Trump said he did not want China to take control of the cryptocurrency sector or overtake the United States in AI development.
“We don’t want to see China take over cryptocurrency. I don’t want to see China win with AI,” Trump said.
The president claimed that the United States is currently ahead of China in the AI race and argued that the country that ultimately prevails will gain a major global advantage.
Trump described artificial intelligence as a transformative technology whose impact could surpass that of the internet, saying it would exceed anything previously imagined.
He also pointed to the growing use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, noting that more people are using digital currencies for payments while reliance on cash is declining.
Trump further said that, if he were the governor of a U.S. state, he would reduce taxes to attract investment in data centers, which he described as an important source of revenue and a crucial component of the global AI race.
“We can’t let China beat us at this,” Trump said.
