The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has announced that it has not identified any drone activity that could affect the security of Kosovo.

Regarding reports of a drone flying over the Gjilan detention center, located in the village of Pasjak in Novobërdë earlier this week, KFOR stated that the case is being investigated by the Kosovo Police.

“KFOR personnel maintain situational awareness and contribute to stability across the region. We have not identified any drone violations that could affect security throughout Kosovo,” the statement said.

On March 9, a suspicious drone was also reported over a forest in Muçibaba. Authorities launched an investigation and confiscated the device.

KFOR clarified that the March 9 incident involved a part of one of its own drones, which had been lost during operations last winter.

“The March 9 incident was debris from a KFOR drone that had been lost during operations last winter. KFOR is equipped with tools and capabilities used to detect and respond to unmanned aerial systems, while also strengthening coordination among multinational forces serving in the mission,” the response further stated.

Earlier in the day, KFOR also said that Serbian military exercises near the border with Kosovo, specifically in the territory of Bujanovac, do not pose a threat to security.

The NATO mission described these exercises as “routine activities.”

“We can confirm that KFOR was informed that the Serbian Armed Forces would conduct a planned training activity involving paratroopers deployed from a helicopter in the village of Muhovac, Serbia. This is a routine activity conducted within Serbian territory and does not pose a threat to security or stability in the region,” KFOR stated.

As confirmed by KFOR, the mission continuously monitors Kosovo’s airspace using all available tools and resources and carries out daily operations to ensure a safe environment for all communities, in line with its UN mandate, in an impartial manner and in cooperation with the Kosovo Police and EULEX.
