Thousands of American soldiers from the elite 82nd Airborne Division have begun arriving in the Middle East as Washington evaluates its next steps in the escalating conflict with Iran.

According to Reuters, the administration of President Donald Trump is considering sending thousands of additional troops to the region, a move that would expand military options, including the possibility of a ground operation on Iranian territory.

Paratroopers based at Fort Bragg are joining thousands of marines, sailors, and special forces already deployed in the area. Over the weekend alone, approximately 2,500 U.S. marines arrived in the region.

U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not disclose the precise locations of the deployments but described the buildup as a predictable response to the escalating situation.

The additional forces include elements from the division’s headquarters, support units, and a combat battalion.

Although no decision has been made to deploy troops directly into Iran, their presence significantly increases U.S. operational capacity for potential future missions.

Sources indicate these troops could be used in a variety of conflict scenarios, including a potential operation to seize control of Kharg Island, a critical hub handling roughly 90% of Iran’s oil exports.
