One armed individual was killed and two others were “neutralized” following a shooting near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday, according to local authorities.

The governor of Istanbul confirmed the incident, while BBC reported that two police officers were injured during the attack. Turkey’s interior minister stated that the suspects have been identified, noting that one of them had links to a group that “exploits religion.”

A large number of security forces were deployed to the scene, including armed plainclothes officers, while emergency medical teams were also present.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is reviewing the reports and stated that no staff were present at the consulate at the time of the incident.

The consulate is located in the northern part of Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, and the attack comes amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further details are expected as the situation develops.
