French President Emmanuel Macron has urged the resumption of negotiations between United States and Iran after the first round of talks ended without an agreement.

Macron said he had spoken with Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing the need to “clarify misunderstandings and avoid escalation” amid rising tensions.

He also called for a full respect of the ceasefire by all parties, emphasizing that it should extend to Lebanon as well, even though Washington considers that issue separate from its negotiations with Tehran.

Macron highlighted the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz without conditions, enabling the swift resumption of dialogue and ensuring the free flow of global trade.

According to him, France and United Kingdom will organize a videoconference with other countries to discuss a potential defensive mission aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in this critical maritime corridor.
