The blockade imposed by the United States on Iranian ports is expected to create major obstacles for Iran’s ability to export goods to global markets.

This development is likely to trigger a chain reaction affecting countries that rely on Iranian imports. Among the most exposed are China, Turkey, India, and Pakistan, which together imported billions of dollars’ worth of goods from Iran in 2023, according to data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity.

Iran’s main exports in 2024 included ethylene polymers, iron ore, acyclic alcohol derivatives, and petroleum gas, highlighting the country’s importance as a supplier of key industrial and energy-related materials.

Additionally, regional partners such as Azerbaijan and Armenia were also significant importers of Iranian goods, making them vulnerable to disruptions caused by the blockade.

As tensions escalate, the situation could impact global supply chains, energy markets, and regional trade dynamics, particularly if alternative routes or suppliers are not quickly secured.
