The “March for Freedom” will be held today in Pristina, organized by the civic platform “Liria ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name) in support of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) — Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi — who are currently facing trial in The Hague.
The march will begin at 2:00 p.m. from “Skanderbeg” Square, with organizers calling on as many citizens as possible to participate.
The initiative has received broad support from citizens, organizations, trade unions, institutions and public figures across Kosovo. Representatives of religious communities have also expressed their support. Kosovo Mufti Naim Tërnava and Kosovo Bishop Monsignor Dodë Gjergji have voiced solidarity with the initiative and its message of unity and solidarity.
Political parties and various public figures have also expressed their support for the march, while calls for participation have intensified in recent days.
The organizers aim for the message of the “March for Freedom” to extend beyond Kosovo’s borders, presenting it as a mobilization of solidarity among Albanians in the areas where they live.
At the latest press conference, Eliza Hoxha, a representative of the “Liria ka Emër” platform, announced that the formal part of the march would feature speeches by representatives of the platform, war veterans’ associations and families of fallen soldiers.
Hysni Gucati will speak on behalf of war veterans’ associations, while the families of fallen soldiers will be represented by Lirjona Sylejmani, daughter of fallen soldier Bajram Sylejmani.
Speeches are also expected from PDK Chairman Bedri Hamza, AAK Chairman Ardian Gjini, and Buna Mustafa, daughter of Sali Mustafa.
Another platform representative, Ismail Tasholli, called on citizens to join the march together with their families.
“Let this be a civic, family-oriented, peaceful and dignified march,” Tasholli said.
The platform’s activities will continue after today’s march. According to the organizers, on September 15 at 10:00 p.m., supporters will gather in The Hague for the “Night of Waiting.”
