The “March for Freedom,” held on Saturday in Pristina in support of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), has attracted the attention of some of the world’s largest news agencies.
Reuters, the Associated Press (AP), and Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on the gathering held in Kosovo’s capital, just days before the final verdict is expected in the case against former President Hashim Thaçi and former KLA leaders Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.
AFP described the gathering as a protest held ahead of the verdict involving the former KLA leaders. According to the French news agency, tens of thousands of people gathered in Pristina to call for former President Thaçi and the other former KLA leaders to be acquitted.
AFP published its report under the headline: “Thousands protest in Kosovo ahead of verdict for ex-leaders facing war crimes charges.”
The Associated Press also reported on the March for Freedom, highlighting the participation of thousands of citizens in support of Hashim Thaçi and three other former KLA commanders.
AP recalled that Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the 1998–1999 war against Serbian forces.
