The Assembly of Kosovo held a solemn session dedicated to survivors of sexual violence during the 1998–1999 war, marking the Day of Survivors with moments of deep emotion and remembrance.

Former MP and wartime survivor Vasfije Krasniqi delivered an emotional speech during the session, during which she broke into tears while addressing lawmakers and representatives present in the chamber.

Speaking on behalf of survivors, Krasniqi said that the candles lit during the ceremony symbolize life, memory, and the strength required to continue living after trauma.

“On April 14, this Assembly becomes a special place of remembrance, a place where pain is not hidden but illuminated. It is a memory, a call, and a hope. The candles we lit today represent not only a ceremonial moment, but our lives, our memories, and our strength to continue,” she said.

Her testimony deeply moved those present, prompting members of parliament to stand in solidarity and applaud her speech in recognition of the courage of survivors.

The solemn session was part of Kosovo’s annual commemorations dedicated to acknowledging and supporting survivors of wartime sexual violence, under the motto “Bring Me Back the Light.”

The commemoration continues to serve as a national reminder of the need for justice, dignity, and institutional support for survivors.
