Prime Minister Albin Kurti has reacted to the passing of academic Rexhep Qosja, saying that his work will live on far beyond his lifetime.

Kurti emphasized that Qosja’s legacy now begins a new chapter one without its author while his extensive body of work will continue to be rediscovered and reinterpreted by future generations.

He highlighted Qosja’s unique intellectual breadth, describing him as a linguist in academia, a historian in language, a writer in public life, and a thinker in his writings. According to Kurti, Qosja moved effortlessly between European Enlightenment thought, Albanian national history, and modern literary currents, constantly inspiring others.

Kurti also underlined Qosja’s deep understanding and appreciation of the Albanian National Renaissance figures, stating that no one knew, valued, and elevated them more than he did.

“The Albanian people do not have another contemporary academic who contributed so much to our language and nation, while at the same time being so heavily challenged by politics and even colleagues,” Kurti wrote, adding that Qosja will be remembered as unwavering.

He concluded by noting that although Qosja has passed away just short of his 90th birthday, his life and work remain a lasting treasure for Albanians everywhere.
