Donald Trump has rejected a recent proposal from Iran, stating that the United States will maintain its maritime blockade until a nuclear agreement is reached.
Speaking to Israeli television channel Channel 12, Trump said the restrictions on Iran will remain in place as part of a broader pressure strategy over Tehran’s nuclear program.
He argued that the blockade is a more effective tool than military strikes, stating that it is “more effective than bombing” and claiming that Iran’s economy is “being suffocated.”
Trump further warned that Iran’s energy infrastructure could “collapse soon” if oil exports remain blocked, adding that Tehran is urgently seeking relief from the sanctions and maritime restrictions.
According to Channel 12, the comments amount to a rejection of Iran’s earlier proposal, which reportedly suggested an initial agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the blockade, while postponing nuclear negotiations to a later phase.
