On the sidelines of the European Political Community (EPC) summit held in Yerevan, Prime Minister Albin Kurti held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland, Petteri Orpo.
According to an official statement from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the discussions focused on deepening diplomatic ties and advancing Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration. Prime Minister Kurti expressed his profound gratitude for Finland’s steadfast support, specifically highlighting Helsinki’s “strong backing for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe” and its assistance in Kosovo’s progress toward achieving European Union candidate status.
Countering Disinformation and Hybrid Threats
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to security and democratic resilience. Prime Minister Kurti extended his appreciation for Finland’s expertise and cooperation in combating disinformation. He characterized this partnership as a “key element in protecting the democratic space and ensuring accurate public information” in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
Adopting the Finnish Security Model
The leaders also discussed defense strategies, with a particular focus on Finland’s “Comprehensive Defense” concept. This advanced model—which integrates the entirety of the state and society to address multifaceted security challenges—was lauded as a benchmark. The OPM noted that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has already moved to adopt this model as part of its own national security framework.
The meeting concluded with both Prime Ministers reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across sectors of mutual strategic interest.
