President of the European Council, António Costa, congratulated Kosovo on Europe Day, stating that the country’s place is within the European Union.
“Dear citizens of Kosovo, I address you today as future members of the European Union. On Europe Day, we celebrate our shared European project, when our founding members chose unity over division and cooperation over conflict. They decided to build a future of peace, freedom, and prosperity from the ashes of World War II,” Costa said.
He added that Kosovo shares the same path toward European Union membership as the rest of the region.
“We believe that your future is in the European Union. A great deal of work is being done to make this happen. You share the same destiny as the rest of the region — the European Union. Continue working to make this a reality. Together, we will build a shared European future. Long live Europe!” he stated.
