Today marks 27 years since the massacre in Korishë, remembered as the “Day of the Martyrs,” when Serbian military and police forces carried out one of the most brutal attacks against Albanian civilians during the Kosovo war.
On May 13, 1999, Serbian forces targeted displaced civilians from the villages of Korishë, Budakovë, Bllacë, Reshtan, Mushtisht, and Grejkoc, who had gathered in the area seeking shelter and safety from the war.
During the attack, 77 Albanian civilians were killed in what remains one of the darkest atrocities committed against Kosovo Albanians during the conflict.
The massacre in Korishë stands as a painful reminder of the systematic violence, expulsions, and crimes committed by Serbian military and police structures against the Albanian civilian population throughout the war in Kosovo.
Every year, families of the victims, survivors, and citizens gather to honor the memory of those who lost their lives and to demand that the crimes committed in Kosovo never be forgotten.
