President of China, Xi Jinping, has warned U.S. President Donald Trump that tensions over Taiwan could escalate into a dangerous conflict between the world’s two largest economies.
The remarks were made during a two-day meeting between the two leaders, where trade relations and global security issues were discussed. According to Chinese official sources, Xi Jinping welcomed progress in trade talks but stressed that mismanaging the Taiwan issue remains a serious risk to international stability.
On the U.S. side, Taiwan was not highlighted in the official summary of the meeting; however, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the issue was indeed discussed, noting that significant differences remain between the two sides.
The talks took place amid efforts to maintain a fragile trade truce between United States and China, as both countries aim to avoid further economic and political escalation in their relationship.
