Albanian students from North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, and other Albanian-inhabited regions in the Balkans are set to gather in Skopje today to protest the government’s failure to provide the jurisprudence (bar) exam in the Albanian language.
The demonstration is a direct response to the Ministry of Justice’s decision to administer the professional legal exam exclusively in Macedonian, despite the fact that the Albanian language holds official status in North Macedonia.
Organizers have called for a massive turnout, emphasizing that defending the right to use the Albanian language in institutional and professional advancement processes is a matter of basic dignity and equality.
The rally will be held under the slogan “Join the Students – All as One.” Protesters are scheduled to assemble at 16:30 CET at the historic Stone Bridge in the center of Skopje.
“In defense of our language, let us all gather in front of the Stone Bridge,” the students’ mobilization call read.
Solidarity for the cause has crossed borders, with the Student Parliament of the University of Pristina (UP) officially confirming its participation. The UP student leadership has urged both students and citizens from Kosovo to show solidarity and join the demonstration in Skopje to support their peers.
