U.S. Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth has stated that the United States is prepared to take action depending on the outcome of ongoing negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program.
In a post on the platform X, Hegseth used the phrase “locked and loaded,” indicating readiness for military action, while commenting on a video of Vice President JD Vance speaking at a White House press conference.
Vice President Vance reiterated that the United States will not accept any agreement that would allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
“As President Trump told me, we are ready to act. We do not want to go down that path, but the president is willing and capable of doing so if necessary,” Vance said.
The statements come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, as diplomatic efforts to reach a nuclear agreement remain uncertain.
Negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program have stalled repeatedly, with both sides maintaining firm positions, raising concerns over possible escalation in the region.
