The Western Balkan countries are awaiting the European Commission’s assessment of their progress in implementing reforms under the EU Growth Plan, a process that will determine the allocation of funding for each participating country.
The deadline for submitting reform implementation reports is July 15, after which the European Commission will evaluate whether the commitments outlined in each country’s Reform Agenda have been fulfilled. Funding will be disbursed only to countries that have successfully implemented the required reforms in line with the established criteria.
European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier urged the countries of the region to make full use of the financial mechanism, emphasizing that it is designed to support reforms and accelerate economic development across the Western Balkans.
For Kosovo, the deadline to complete 13 key reform steps expired on June 30. These reforms are linked to approximately €91 million in financial assistance. The same date also marked the end of the additional implementation period granted due to delays caused by the country’s institutional crisis.
Under the rules of the EU Growth Plan, reforms that are not completed within the specified deadlines may result in the loss of allocated funding, which can then be redistributed to other eligible beneficiaries of the financial instrument.
The European Commission’s final decision is expected after reviewing the reports submitted by the Western Balkan countries by mid-July.
