On July 16, 2026, the Commander of the NATO-led KFOR mission, Major General Özkan Ulutaş, hosted the Secretary General of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu, at the KFOR headquarters in Camp Film City, Prishtina.

The high-level meeting focused entirely on assessing the current security situation in Kosovo and highlighting the vital role of international inter-agency cooperation in preserving regional stability.

Key Security Priorities Discussed

During their briefing, Major General Ulutaş shared KFOR’s latest assessments on regional developments and reiterated the peacekeeping mission’s unwavering commitment to its core objectives:

  • Ensuring Safety: Maintaining a safe and secure environment (SASE) for all communities living in Kosovo without distinction.
  • Freedom of Movement: Securing unobstructed transit paths and freedom of movement across the territory.
  • Coordinated Support: Aligning long-term security goals with international partners to prevent any potential localized escalations.

The Layered Security Framework in Kosovo

The meeting underscored that regional stability is maintained through a structured, multi-tier security mechanism. KFOR operates as the third line of security response, coordinating closely with local and European partners:

Upholding UN Resolution 1244

KFOR emphasized that all of its tactical operations and deployments continue to be conducted strictly under the international mandate of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999. Both leaders concluded the meeting by agreeing that continuous, transparent coordination between KFOR, the OSCE, EULEX, and the Kosovo Police remains the most effective tool to ensure lasting peace in the Western Balkans.
