Kosovo’s chief negotiator in the dialogue with Serbia, Agron Bajrami, has responded following a statement issued by the European Democrats, which criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s rhetoric regarding Kosovo.
The European Democrats said that Vučić had “once again claimed that Kosovo is part of Serbia,” arguing that such statements undermine the process of reconciliation and regional stability.
In their statement, they also noted that only days earlier, Serbian Minister Snežana Paunović had said she would have “ethnically cleansed” Kosovo in 1998, adding that although the remarks were condemned across Europe, they have not resulted in any political consequences.
Bajrami shared the European Democrats’ statement, describing it as an important message regarding Belgrade’s approach and the rhetoric that, in his view, obstructs the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
He stated that Kosovo will not negotiate its existence and argued that there can be no credible dialogue while one party continues to assert territorial claims over the other.
“Belgrade continues to deny reality, deny the truth, and recycle the language of the 1990s. There can be no credible dialogue while one side still claims the other’s territory and dreams of repeating ethnic cleansing. Kosovo will not negotiate its existence,” Bajrami wrote on X.
