More than 27 years later, investigations into one of the wartime crimes committed in northern Kosovo have seen a significant development. The Kosovo Police have identified two individuals suspected of involvement in the killing and burial of 23 Albanian civilians during the 1999 war.
According to sources cited by Sinjali, the suspects are Momir Jakšić (80) and Miljko Biševac (65).
According to investigations by the Directorate for Investigation of War Crimes, the case is linked to the tragic events of April 19, 1999, when a group of unarmed Albanian civilians travelling toward Montenegro were stopped in an area known as Kalludra e Vogël, in the municipality of Zubin Potok, by members of the Territorial Defence forces operating under the command structure of the Yugoslav Army.
Investigators suspect that the civilians were initially robbed of money and valuables before 23 of them were executed, while their bodies were buried at a location near a river in Kalludra e Vogël.
Sources from Sinjali report that on July 27, 2026, investigators from the Sector for the Investigation of Missing Persons during the War located the suspected site of the mass grave. During field examinations, human remains were discovered, including parts of skulls and other skeletal fragments, as well as pieces of clothing believed to belong to the victims.
Based on collected evidence and witness statements, authorities identified Momir Jakšić, a former member of the Territorial Defence, and Miljko Biševac, former commander of the Territorial Defence of Zubin Potok municipality, as suspects in the detention, robbery, killing, and burial of 23 unarmed Albanian civilians.
The site is currently under the protection of the Rapid Reaction Unit, while further excavations and forensic examinations are expected to be carried out in coordination with the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Following an order from the Special Prosecution, Momir Jakšić and Miljko Biševac have been detained for 48 hours on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “War Crimes Against the Civilian Population.” Investigations into the case remain ongoing.
