Arbnora Luta, spokesperson for Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office, has stated that the ongoing excavations in Zubin Potok are part of a sensitive investigative process aimed at locating persons who went missing during the Kosovo war, urging media outlets to avoid publishing unconfirmed information.
She said the case remains under investigation and that the work carried out so far is the result of a years-long investigation conducted by the Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
“Regarding the excavations being carried out as part of the search process for missing persons, I can say that this is a case still in the investigation phase. It is a sensitive and complex process resulting from years of investigative work by the Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecutor’s Office. So far, more than ten exhumation orders have been issued as part of these investigative actions. At this stage, we cannot speak of results before the investigation has been completed,” Luta said.
Asked about media reports concerning the number of human remains allegedly discovered at the site, Luta stressed that it is still too early to confirm any figures.
“We ask for your understanding and urge you to avoid any reporting that has not been confirmed by the competent institutions. It is still too early at this stage to speak in numbers. We must wait for all necessary verifications and analyses before reaching such conclusions. Once we are legally able to release information, the public and the media will have full access to updates regarding the investigative process. Until then, we ask for your understanding in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and to respect the dignity of the victims and their families.”
