Firefighters in Belgium are battling a powerful wildfire that has engulfed the High Fens nature reserve, in what authorities have described as the largest fire in the country’s recent history.
The flames have affected around one-third of the area, while residents of two nearby villages have been ordered to evacuate due to the risk of the fire approaching their homes.
Aircraft and helicopters equipped to drop water, sent by several European countries, have also been deployed as part of the firefighting operation.
The fire started on Friday and remained out of control throughout Saturday.
According to authorities, marshland terrain, dry areas, forests, and weather conditions are making it difficult for firefighting teams to operate on the ground.
