Kosovo’s political deadlock is continuing, with the main political parties yet to reach an agreement on how to overcome the institutional crisis and unblock the Assembly.

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has invited the political parties to a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation and seek a possible solution.

However, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) have rejected the invitation. LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku has said he is willing to meet only with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, rather than with Haxhiu.

Without a political agreement, the Kosovo Assembly remains unable to move forward, while the election of a new president has emerged as one of the key issues that must be resolved to overcome the institutional impasse.

The continuing standoff risks prolonging the political crisis and delaying the formation and functioning of Kosovo’s institutions.

It remains to be seen whether the parties will reach a compromise that could unblock the Assembly and pave the way for the election of a president.
