At a joint press conference today, Kosovo’s Acting Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla and Kosovo Police Director General Gazmend Hoxha provided details about the weapons seized in villages surrounding Kalludër in Zubin Potok, an area where three mass graves and the remains of 23 people from the Kosovo war were recently discovered.

Both officials said the seized weapons will undergo forensic examinations to determine whether they were used in killings committed in the Kalludër area.

Hoxha said that, if necessary, the weapons could also be sent abroad for further examination.

“Naturally, these are our suspicions that some of the weapons on display may have been involved in the mass killing in the case of the ‘Group of Intellectuals.’ However, this must be verified through examinations in laboratories in Kosovo and, if necessary, abroad. At this stage, this remains information that needs to be verified. Nevertheless, all of these are illegal weapons, and each one will be examined individually until we reach a concrete result.”

Sveçla said he has instructed the Kosovo Forensics Agency to prioritize the examination of the weapons and carry it out urgently.

“I have already ordered the Forensics Agency to examine these weapons as a priority. As soon as this press conference ends, all of the seized weaponry will be transferred to the Forensics Agency, which, in cooperation with the police officers involved in the investigation, will process the weapons as a matter of urgency.”

Sveçla added that once investigators obtain scientifically verified information, the authorities will take the necessary steps against anyone found to have been involved in the massacre.

“As soon as we have scientifically based information, the police will take the necessary steps, whether as part of the investigation or to bring before justice anyone involved in this massacre. We will immediately inform the public.”

The forensic examinations are expected to determine whether any of the seized weapons can be scientifically linked to the killings under investigation in Kalludër.
