At the Potočari Memorial Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thousands of Bosniak victims killed by Bosnian Serb forces during the 1990s war are buried. For their families, the pain of those losses remains decades later.
Among them is Mejra Gjogaz, who lost several family members in Srebrenica.
Following the death of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, she said she wished he had lived longer — not out of mercy, but so that he could continue suffering in prison.
“I would have liked him to live longer, so that he would suffer and be in pain, but he has left this world,” Gjogaz said.
Mladić, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide and war crimes, died on Thursday at the age of 84.
He was arrested in Serbia in 2011, after more than a decade on the run.
