Serbia’s government official for Kosovo, Petar Petković, has asked the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Prishtina to support efforts to hold Serbia’s parliamentary elections in Kosovo.
Petković made the request during a meeting with Gerard McGurk, head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25.
Petković said the OSCE had played a key role in facilitating voting in Kosovo during previous Serbian elections, including those held in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020.
According to Petković, the OSCE helped ensure the secure and transparent collection of ballots, the safety of voters, election materials and participants, as well as the overall transparency of the electoral process.
He said the OSCE had previously developed specific procedures in line with internationally accepted standards on the protection of human rights and freedoms, while also cooperating with KFOR and EULEX, which he described as key guarantors of a safe and secure environment.
Petković urged McGurk to ensure that the October 25 elections are held in Kosovo with the necessary involvement of the OSCE and other relevant actors.
The issue of Serbian elections in Kosovo has remained politically sensitive, with voting arrangements depending on cooperation between international missions and Kosovo institutions.
Petković’s appeal comes amid broader discussions over the role of the OSCE, KFOR and EULEX in maintaining security and facilitating political processes involving Kosovo’s Serb community.
