The US has expanded its sanctions against Russia, including targeting China-based companies that sell semiconductors to Moscow.

Semiconductors have reportedly been found in a wide range of Russian equipment, from drones to radios, missiles and armored vehicles, found on the battlefield.

The US Treasury said this was raising “the risk of secondary sanctions on foreign financial institutions dealing with Russia’s war economy”, effectively threatening to revoke Moscow’s access to the US financial system.

He also said he is moving to limit Russia’s ability to use certain software and IT services and, together with the State Department, is targeting more than 300 individuals and entities in Russia and across Asia, Europe and Africa, writes skynews.

Additionally, the Commerce Department said it is targeting companies in Hong Kong, taking steps that will affect nearly $100 million worth of items, including chips.

“We particularly welcome the tough measures against Russia’s defense-industrial base and its access to technology and resources abroad,” said Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister.

“Any entity that helps Russia in the production of weapons should be subjected to more intense pressure,” he added.
