The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in The Hague has called on citizens to remain calm, avoid provocations and respect the law following today’s verdict by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers against former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

In its statement, the embassy expressed deep disappointment over the verdict, saying it believes the judgment could be changed on appeal.

“The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in The Hague has followed with deep concern today’s verdict by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers concerning the case of KLA leaders Mr. Hashim Thaçi, Mr. Kadri Veseli, Mr. Jakup Krasniqi and Mr. Rexhep Selimi.

This decision has, understandably, caused deep disappointment throughout Kosovo and is deeply distressing news for all of us. The Kosovo Liberation Army fought a just, defensive and necessary war. No one, at any time, can change that fact.

We believe that the final judgment on appeal will change this interpretation and this verdict. At this time, we express our solidarity with the families of Mr. Hashim Thaçi, Mr. Kadri Veseli, Mr. Jakup Krasniqi and Mr. Rexhep Selimi.

At the same time, the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo calls on citizens of the Republic of Kosovo who are in The Hague to remain calm and composed, not to fall victim to provocations, to respect the rules and conditions under which the protest was authorised by the Municipality of The Hague, and to respect the friendly country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Violence is not permitted. Peace, dignity and respect for the law are everyone’s responsibility.”
