Pierre Richard Prosper, the lawyer representing former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, has called on Kosovo’s Assembly to take action following the guilty verdicts against four former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders, who were sentenced to a combined 81 years in prison.
Prosper said that, in his view, justice had been violated and argued that Kosovo should seriously reconsider its position toward the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
He called on the Assembly of Kosovo to review the country’s support for the court, emphasizing that the Specialist Chambers were established through a partnership between Kosovo and the European Union.
“Kosovo needs to pay attention to this. The Parliament of Kosovo needs to look at this. This Court is technically a partnership between Kosovo and the EU. And if I were a member of Kosovo’s Parliament, I would withdraw support for this court tomorrow,” Thaçi’s lawyer said.
Prosper’s remarks come after the Specialist Chambers handed down prison sentences against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. The defense teams have indicated that the verdicts will be challenged through the appeals process.
