“I reiterated our position that Camp Bondsteel be transformed into a permanent U.S. military base, in the service of peace, stability and long-term security in the region,” Kurti said.
The Kosovo prime minister also discussed the country’s aspiration to eventually become a member of NATO, according to his account of the meeting.
Camp Bondsteel, located near Ferizaj, has hosted U.S. and other international military personnel as part of NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) mission since the deployment of international forces to Kosovo in 1999.
