The United States has proposed that the United Arab Emirates host a trilateral meeting between Ukraine and Russia, with U.S. participation, to discuss efforts to end the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the U.S. proposal is for a meeting at the technical level, while Ukraine is awaiting a specific date.
“The American side has proposed a meeting at the technical level, in a trilateral format,” Zelensky told reporters during a conference via WhatsApp.
According to Zelensky, the United Arab Emirates has been suggested as one of the locations where the meeting could take place, while Ukraine is awaiting a proposal from the United States regarding the date.
Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump this week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. According to Zelensky, they discussed ways to end the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Following the meeting with Trump, Ukrainian negotiators held talks with U.S. representatives on concrete details.
“We will inform our European partners and discuss these details with them, while the Americans will speak with the Russians. In ten days, we will return with a new perspective or with a result,” Zelensky said.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has stated that a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine and the United States could take place soon.
Zelensky also said that he asked Trump to raise the issue of the war in Ukraine during his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The Ukrainian president said he is still awaiting answers from the U.S. team, particularly regarding efforts to reduce tensions ahead of the winter.
