The international organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s defeat in the parliamentary elections presents a historic opportunity to restore media freedom in Serbia.
In a statement posted on X, the organization described Vučić as a “predator of press freedom,” emphasizing that the victory of the opposition movement known as the Student List could pave the way for improvements in the country’s media landscape.
“The defeat of press freedom predator Aleksandar Vučić by the opposition movement Student List in yesterday’s parliamentary elections offers a historic opportunity to restore media freedom,” the organization stated.
Reporters Without Borders also praised the courageous work of journalists who, according to the organization, have resisted repression under Vučić for more than a decade.
The organization underscored the significance of Serbia’s latest political developments for the future of press freedom and independent media in the country.
