Israel Launches Operation in Hebron, Displacing Around 1,200 Palestinians
Around 1,200 Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron following an Israeli military operation, while approximately 1,300 others face the risk of displacement. Israeli forces have also arrested around 70 Palestinians during the operation, according to Palestinian organizations and officials.
The displacement was reported on Saturday by a Palestinian official, who warned that hundreds of additional families could lose their homes. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, a non-governmental organization, said the arrests took place on Friday and Saturday. Israeli officials have not commented on the reported arrests, Reuters reported.
The military operation began following an attack on Friday, when two armed Palestinians opened fire on an Israeli military checkpoint near Hebron, killing two Israeli soldiers.
Following the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the military would launch a large-scale operation in the area.
According to the Israeli military, the operation is being conducted in the Al-Jaladah and Ein Deir Baha neighborhoods, near the entrance to Hebron, with the stated aim of locating the gunmen and seizing weapons. The military has also announced plans to demolish buildings as part of the operation.
The Palestinian Authority has condemned the military intervention, describing it as “collective punishment.”Around 1,200 Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron following an Israeli military operation, while approximately 1,300 others face the risk of displacement.
