The political party Novo Lice Srbije has called for the immediate resignations of Mionica Mayor Boban Janković and local assembly president Darko Jevtić, demanding a public apology over what it describes as violence against young people and threats to their safety.

In a statement addressing recent events in Mionica, the party said that pressure and violence at the local level were continuing despite the results of Serbia’s parliamentary elections, which it interprets as a rejection of the existing political course.

“This is not the first time that hired thugs from the Serbian Progressive Party have come to our municipality to intimidate and beat people,” Novo Lice Srbije said, referring to incidents during local elections approximately a year ago.

According to the party, two young men were seriously injured in an attack at the time, one of whom was serving as an election observer for the student-backed electoral list.

The party demanded the immediate resignations of Janković and Jevtić, as well as a public apology to all residents of Mionica, particularly parents whose children were allegedly subjected to violence.

“We demand answers about meetings with representatives of the authorities from Ub. You owe an apology to all the citizens of Mionica, especially parents whose children were exposed to violence,” the statement said.

“Nobody has the right to send thugs after our children, beat them and call them fascists and Ustaše because of their views,” the party added.

Novo Lice Srbije also called for an investigation to establish the responsibility of everyone it alleges participated in, organized or enabled the incidents that endangered young people.

“You will never again beat, assault or trample our children in the streets! You will never again call them fascists and Ustaše because they are fighting for freedom!” the party declared.

It concluded its statement with the slogan: “Serbia remembers. Mionica remembers. Serbia has defeated the mafia.”

The allegations and demands were made by Novo Lice Srbije in its political statement. The supplied report did not include a response from Janković, Jevtić or the Serbian Progressive Party.
