Igor Simić, head of the Serbian List Parliamentary Group, and his deputy, Srđan Popović, met today at the Serbian List Parliamentary Group’s offices in the Kosovo Assembly with the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel.

The Serbian List said that during the meeting, “discussions focused on the European Commission’s upcoming report on Kosovo’s progress, which will soon be presented to the public, as well as the current political situation and the position of the Serb community in Kosovo.”

“Representatives of the Serbian List expressed their conviction that the European Commission’s upcoming report will pay particular attention to the difficult position of the Serb community, the numerous challenges it faces every day, and the need for stronger engagement by institutions and international representatives in protecting the fundamental human rights and the civil and political rights of Serbs,” the Serbian List said in a statement.

According to the Serbian List, the meeting also addressed “European reform laws,” which the Kosovo Assembly is expected to debate in the coming period, as well as “the importance of the participation of representatives of the Serb community in decision-making processes and the implementation of reforms.”

“In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the importance of the fact that the European Union, both in the process of European reforms and in political life in this region, recognises the Serbian List as an important and constructive partner,” the statement said.

The Serbian List said it “remains committed to constructive political engagement, cooperation with representatives of the European Union, and consistently representing the interests of the Serb community, while insisting that every reform and political process must take into account the rights, needs and legitimate interests of Serbs.”
