RKS NEWS

Today, the Carabinieri continued their “exercises” on the Ibër Bridge, which divides South Mitrovica from North Mitrovica.

Local media there have published images from these exercises.

Since yesterday, additional units belonging to the KFOR Multinational Specialized Unit (MSU) have been temporarily stationed on the main bridge over the Ibër River in Mitrovica.

This was confirmed by KFOR in a statement, stating that such additional deployments are part of the periodic training that KFOR conducts to test its established procedures and to uphold the highest operational standards.

“KFOR also maintains a permanent presence on the main bridge over the Ibër/Ibar River in Mitrovica and continues to conduct regular patrols in the surrounding areas. KFOR is monitoring the security situation in northern Kosovo and remains vigilant. It is committed to taking all necessary measures to continue fulfilling its UN mandate and to respond to any further relevant developments,” the statement said.

Furthermore, they emphasized that “the NATO-led KFOR mission reaffirms its unwavering commitment to contributing to a safe environment for all people and communities living in Kosovo, at all times and impartially, under its UN mandate.”

“KFOR acts as the third responder in terms of security and continues to closely coordinate with all its counterparts, including the Kosovo Police and the EU Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), which respectively serve as the first and second responders in security matters.”
