Germany is set to deliver 4,000 combat drones to Ukraine, developed by the German artificial intelligence company Helsing. According to Bild, which reported this information as “highly confidential,” the agreement with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense was finalized in September, and the order has been financed through a German government fund.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expressed his satisfaction with the timing of the delivery, emphasizing that it comes when support is most needed. Pistorius had witnessed a testing of these drones during his visit to Kyiv in May, alongside his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov.
Specifications of the “Mini Taurus” Drones
The “Mini Taurus” drones are guided by artificial intelligence, enabling them to bypass Russian GPS jamming systems. They reportedly have higher precision than drones operated by pilots and boast a range four times greater than the conventional kamikaze drones currently used by the Ukrainian military.
Despite the significant military aid from Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains firm in his stance against supplying Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, due to concerns over escalating the conflict with Russia. A government spokesperson reiterated this decision during a press briefing in Berlin.
Germany’s Crucial Role
Germany is the second-largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine after the United States. However, Scholz has taken a cautious approach to avoid providing equipment that could lead to a direct confrontation with Russia. The decision to withhold long-range missiles continues to stand, even as battlefield dynamics shift.
