Romania won the match against Kosovo 3-0 on the table, making them the top team in League C of the Nations League and increasing their chances of qualifying for the World Cup Playoffs.

In this situation, Sweden, which finished first in the corresponding League C group, is now at a disadvantage, as they can no longer be the best team.

As a result, the Swedes are planning to challenge UEFA’s decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as their World Cup chances are at risk. Swedish journalist Johanna Franden spoke on the matter.

“If you focus for five minutes, you’ll understand why Swedish fans are angry now because of UEFA. The national team might lose its spot in the World Cup because of the racist Romanians.

Kosovo will appeal UEFA’s decision to CAS. The crucial aspect is to prove that the calls for Serbia were racist. UEFA has a three-step protocol when a team decides to leave the field citing racist chants from the crowd, but messages from the crowd that are considered ‘political’ are not sufficient grounds for a team to leave the field. Generally, they are only fined.

Coincidentally, this is what happened when the two teams met in previous EURO 2024 qualifiers, and Romanian fans displayed a banner that read ‘Kosovo is Serbia.’ (…) As a Swede, all I can hope for now is that UEFA will learn from CAS and Romania’s 3-0 victory will be overturned. However, I don’t have high hopes,” Franden wrote.
