Kosovo is ending yet another Friday without a political agreement to break the deadlock, as political parties remain divided over which step should come first. While Albin Kurti is calling for discussions on the election of a consensual president, the PDK, LDK, and the Alliance insist that the Assembly must first be constituted and a government formed.
Acting Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, reiterated his call from Vushtrri for Kosovo’s other Albanian political parties to jointly find a unifying figure for president.
Kurti said the next president should be a consensual figure with the broadest possible political and public support.
He also commented on the position of the LDK, which made clear last night that it would remain in opposition but was willing to discuss a consensual candidate for head of state.
Kurti also spoke about details of his discussions with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku and the offer of a coalition government.
Meanwhile, the PDK and the Alliance, which have long rejected LVV’s calls for cooperation, said from the Assembly lobby that unless the process of forming institutions is brought back onto a constitutional track, Kurti has no credibility to open major issues of state.
Shortly before these statements, PDK and Alliance MPs appeared in the plenary hall, as they had announced a day earlier, even though the chair of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, did not respond to their request to continue the session that was suspended on August 6.
From the plenary hall, they called for the continuation of the constitutive session and the functioning of the Assembly.
Later, LDK MPs also gathered for a parliamentary group meeting at the Assembly.
Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu said her party had made its position clear and was now waiting first for the Assembly to be constituted and the government to be formed, followed by a process to identify a consensual candidate for president.
Following the August 6 session, which ended without being completed and without a new date being set for its continuation, the institutional crisis remains without a clear timeline for resolution.
