Brussels, Belgium – The newly appointed President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, is set to host a dinner on December 3 for the leaders of the Western Balkans, bringing together representatives from six countries in the region. However, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani will not be able to attend due to prior commitments, including a state visit to Brunei on the same dates.
The invitation was extended to President Osmani on November 9, but due to her already confirmed state visit to Brunei, where she will travel at the invitation of the Sultan of Brunei on December 2-3, she informed President Costa’s office that she would not be able to attend. As a result, the invitation has been delegated to other Kosovo institutions to ensure the country’s participation in the event.
Bekim Kupina, the media advisor to President Osmani, confirmed this arrangement. “On November 5, President Osmani received an invitation from President Antonio Costa to attend a dinner with Western Balkans leaders on December 3 in Brussels. However, due to her pre-arranged international agenda and the confirmed state visit to Brunei, her office has informed President Costa’s office of her inability to attend. Therefore, it was agreed that the invitation would be delegated to other institutions in Kosovo.”
Despite her absence from the December meeting, President Osmani is scheduled to represent Kosovo at the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit on December 18, with her participation already confirmed. In preparation for this summit, she has agreed to visit Brussels on December 4 to meet with President Costa and other EU institutions. This visit will provide an opportunity to discuss expectations and key topics ahead of the December summit.
