The Chairman of the Government Commission for Missing Persons, Andin Hoti, stated that after three years of dialogue and unjustifiable delays from Serbia, the establishment of the Joint Commission to oversee the implementation of the Declaration on Missing Persons was approved today in Brussels.
Hoti said that this step represents an important moment in addressing Kosovo’s concerns regarding the issue of missing persons, which he called a sensitive and crucial matter for families in Kosovar society.
“The Joint Commission, chaired by the European Union, will be the highest body responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective and full implementation of the Declaration on Missing Persons.”
“At the same time, it will serve as a platform where, finally, we will be able to address all our concerns regarding the delays in the process and the inadequate handling of these delays or obstacles; including here the lack of cooperation from Serbia in the Working Group and the refusal to open the relevant archives,” said Hoti.
He further expressed hope that this step would serve as a moment of progress towards a long-delayed and final resolution of the fate of the missing persons and easing the pain of their families, who, as he mentioned, have long awaited justice and the truth.
