Bashar al-Assad, the ousted president of Syria, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, according to sources from the Russian channel General SVR. The alleged attempt, which reportedly occurred on Sunday, involved poisoning, causing Assad to experience breathing difficulties. Medical professionals quickly arrived at his residence in Moscow, where he was staying with his family, and were able to save his life.
This news comes amid rumors that his wife, Asma Assad, has expressed a desire to seek a divorce and relocate to London. Assad, who is under the protection of the Kremlin, has been residing in Moscow since December 8, 2024.
The General SVR channel, which is believed to be operated by a former Russian spy, claims that the 59-year-old Assad sought immediate medical attention after suffering from coughing fits and feeling as though he was suffocating. His condition reportedly stabilized by Monday after receiving treatment. Russian officials have not yet issued an official confirmation of the incident.
