Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with Ambassador William Walker, former head of the OSCE Verification Mission, to discuss one of the most significant and tragic events in Kosovo’s modern history: the Reçak Massacre.
Kurti expressed deep gratitude for Ambassador Walker’s commitment to truth and justice and his pivotal role in garnering international support during the war in Kosovo. The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of Walker’s upcoming memoir, which documents the harrowing events of the Reçak Massacre.
Memoir to Strengthen Kosovo’s Narrative
Kurti stated, “This book and Ambassador Walker’s testimonies will serve as a tool for promoting the truth about Kosovo and reinforcing the international narrative of the genocide committed by Serbia. Works like this help preserve the memory of horrific events such as the Reçak Massacre.”
The Government of Kosovo has allocated €70,000 to support the memoir’s research, writing, editing, translation, printing, and promotion. The initiative aims to ensure the book reaches a broad audience and educates younger generations about Kosovo’s history and struggle for freedom.
A Testament to Truth
The book provides an authentic perspective from Ambassador Walker, documenting the events of January 15, 1999, in Reçak. It serves as a vital act in preserving evidence of the crimes committed by the Serbian regime and advancing global recognition of the genocide in Kosovo.
Kurti concluded by reaffirming Kosovo’s commitment to ensuring the truth remains unforgotten and that justice is served for the perpetrators of genocide.
