The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has commenced its work for the parliamentary elections in Kosovo scheduled for February 9, 2025. During a press conference, Nathalie Loiseau, Head of the EU Mission, announced that this marks the EU’s seventh mission to observe elections in Kosovo.
Loiseau emphasized that the Mission’s presence aims to monitor and assess whether the electoral process complies with Kosovo’s laws, international standards, and previous recommendations.
Long-Term Mission with Over 100 Observers
The EU EOM is the only long-term international mission monitoring these elections and will involve over 100 observers deployed across Kosovo.
“We have been invited by President Osmani and the EU to observe the parliamentary elections in Kosovo. This is the seventh time the EU is observing elections in Kosovo. The 2025 parliamentary elections are a significant development for Kosovo. They are the first elections conducted under the new election law, which incorporates several EU recommendations,” Loiseau stated.
She added that the Mission’s presence on the ground seeks to evaluate how the electoral process adheres to Kosovo’s election law, international standards, and past recommendations to contribute to a credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral process. “Our objective is for voters to freely express their choices,” she said.
