Richard Grenell, the U.S. Special Envoy for Special Missions, has commented on the recent developments in Serbia, nearly three months after the start of protests by students and citizens following the collapse of a railway tent in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024, which resulted in 15 fatalities and several injuries.

In a post on platform X, Grenell advised the protesters that “it is always important to raise your voice and be heard,” but cautioned that “everyone must condemn violence and adhere to peaceful demonstrations.”

“The democratic process must be respected. We do not support those who undermine the rule of law or forcibly take over government buildings. If you disagree with a law or a leader, then work to change it — but do not use violence,” Grenell wrote.

U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Richard Grenell to assist the new American administration with some of the most challenging foreign policy issues.

Grenell served as Ambassador to Germany during Trump’s first administration, as the Presidential Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia Peace Negotiations, and held the position of Acting Director of National Intelligence.

He was also a contender to serve as Secretary of State but was passed over in favor of Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

“Ric will work on some of the hottest spots around the world, including Venezuela and North Korea,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, announcing the appointment.

Grenell remained close to Trump after he left office in 2021, occasionally serving as a senior advisor on foreign policy. He was an early supporter of Trump’s 2024 campaign, organizing numerous events for the Republican candidate focused on the economy and national security.
