In recent days, dozens of minor earthquakes have been recorded in the sea area around Santorini, the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history, as well as on nearby islands.

Authorities have announced that schools on the Greek island of Santorini will be closed tomorrow due to heightened seismic activity in the region. They have also urged residents to avoid large indoor gatherings and stay away from the ports.

The strongest earthquake recorded so far had a magnitude of 4.5.

This morning, another quake measuring 4.1 struck at 8:48 AM, followed by a second one at 4.5 magnitude, according to the Geophysics Department of the University of Athens.

Earlier, around 11 earthquakes were reported within a few hours.

Authorities have emphasized that these tremors are due to tectonic activity rather than volcanic movement, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

Residents have been advised to stay away from crowded indoor areas and avoid the ports of Fira and Amoudi.

Due to the situation on the popular tourist island, the Greek government is set to hold an emergency meeting this afternoon.
