China has sent 21 planes, seven warships, and a spy balloon through the Taiwan Strait in the last 24 hours.
Taipei’s Ministry of Defense announced the developments on social media platform X, noting the activities just a few kilometers from the island’s shores, which rejects China’s sovereignty.
Fourteen of the planes crossed the median line of the Strait, which marks an unofficial border with China, entering Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
In response, Taiwan deployed its missile defense systems and sent ships and planes to monitor the movements of the Chinese military.
Beijing claims sovereignty over the island, which it considers a “rebellious province” and an integral part of Chinese territory. On the other hand, the West and the United States support Taiwan’s independence.
