Friedrich Merz, the Christian Democratic Union’s (CDU) candidate for Chancellor in Germany, has firmly stated that his party will never cooperate with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD). This comes after Merz faced criticism for working with AfD in passing stricter migration policies in the Bundestag.

Merz emphasized that the AfD opposes everything the CDU stands for, including Germany’s Western orientation, the Euro, and NATO. He reaffirmed that his conservative bloc, CDU-CSU, would not form a minority government with AfD support in the upcoming February 23 elections.

Despite public protests, Merz remains committed to stricter migration policies, though he has been criticized by former Chancellor Angela Merkel for his recent alignment with the far-right party.
