Osmani Requests a Strong U.S. Stance to Counter Serbia’s Threats

“President Osmani emphasized the importance of strengthening regional security and the need for a robust deterrent stance against the ongoing threats from Russia, Serbia, and other malicious actors,” said a press release from the Presidency regarding the meeting between Osmani and Assistant Secretary Louis Bono. In this context, President Osmani stressed the necessity of close cooperation to maintain stability and peace in the region.

On Wednesday, President Vjosa Osmani met in Washington with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Louis Bono, during which she called for a strong stance to confront Serbia’s ongoing threats.

“President Osmani highlighted the importance of strengthening regional security and the need for a strong preventive stance against the continuous threats from Russia, Serbia, and other malicious actors,” the press release states. “In this context, President Osmani underlined the necessity of close cooperation to preserve stability and peace in the region.”

President Osmani is in the U.S. to attend the National Prayer Breakfast.

The press release about her meeting with Assistant Secretary Bono further states that the discussion focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States in line with the objectives of President Donald Trump’s administration, as well as advancing cooperation in key areas such as defense and economics.

“During the meeting, President Osmani reaffirmed the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to working closely with the United States, deepening bilateral relations,” the press release states. “Among other topics, President Osmani discussed the importance of Kosovo’s integration into NATO, which would not only strengthen security in Kosovo and the region but also aligns with U.S. strategic objectives for global peace and security. She confirmed that Kosovo has already increased its defense budget to 2% of GDP and is in the process of further raising it to meet the strategic goal of NATO membership.”

According to the press release, President Osmani also confirmed Kosovo’s readiness for active engagement in implementing the Strategic Dialogue, which was offered to Kosovo earlier this year, to address common challenges and priorities in various fields.

President Osmani will deliver a speech as a special guest at the National Prayer Breakfast, an event with a six-decade tradition. Each year, senior U.S. officials, members of Congress, politicians, military leaders, and guests from around the world gather for this joint prayer.
